Ryan Looks At Rovers Test

Darren Ryan is expecting a physical test as he prepares his Under 18s side to play Blackburn Rovers at Thomas Telford School on Saturday (12pm).

With some of Ryan’s players being on International duty and also some of them being required to play for Wolves U23s in the coming week, Ryan will be forced to select from a number of the younger age groups for the game against Blackburn.

Speaking ahead of the game, Ryan sees it is an opportunity for those coming into the side, to show what they can do.

“Blackburn are a physical, hard working team and it’s going to be very competitive,” said Ryan.

“In recent weeks, our performances have been good, it’s just the results which haven’t been coming our way. It’s given opportunities for some of the younger players to come in and play now and they’ve stepped up and done really well.

“We’re going to be even younger on Saturday with the international break - it probably would have been easier for us to cancel the game just with the players that we’ve got away.

“The young players that are coming up can handle the situation and I’m looking forward to seeing a lot of the younger players playing.

“It’s an opportunity, it might have been easier to call the game off with having players on International duty and some playing for the Under 23s next week, but it’s an opportunity for the younger players to come in to the team.

"I think Saturday will be the youngest we’ve been this season with a mixture of Under 14 through to Under 17 players.

“It’s great for the development of the young players, they’ve been great in training and I’m looking forward to seeing how they perform.

“Physically it might be difficult for them but I know they’re going to work hard and they’ve been excellent on the ball this week.”
