McLeod pens professional contract

Ethan McLeod is the latest Wolves Academy player to sign his first professional contract with the club.

The 18-year-old has progressed right the way through the model of development at Compton Park, having initially joined at the pre-academy stage as an under-7.

A midfielder by trade, McLeod has developed into a forward, benefitting from the coaching of Darius Vassell who helped him learn and understand the skills required for the position.

Injury has limited McLeod’s playing time in recent months, but Wolves had seen enough to reward the youngster for his hard work and dedication over the years.

Academy manager for football, Jon Hunter-Barrett, said: “I’m really excited for Ethan after getting his first professional contract with Wolves. He’s been here for a very long time, has progressed right the way through and has played in age groups higher up throughout his journey.

“Ethan’s an exciting, dynamic player with lots of pace. Unfortunately he’s suffered a few setbacks at youth team level that have limited the amount of football he’s been able to play.”

Hunter-Barrett admits he takes extra pride in seeing a player who’s been at the club from day dot rise through the ranks to secure a first professional contract, and is looking forward to seeing McLeod continue his growth in the old gold.

“It’s always rewarding because there are a number of people he’s passed through to get to this point.

“His next step when he’s fully recovered and back to full fitness is to make that cross between under-18s and under-21s football.

“It’s always a big step from 16s to 18s and then 18s to 21s. It’s then an even bigger step to first-team football. We believe Ethan has the tools to cope with the demands of what’s being asked of him and show everyone why he’s been rewarded with this contract.”
