Hubner extends Wolves stay

Defender Justin Hubner has signed a new two-and-a-half year contract at Wolves, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2025.

Now 19, Hubner arrived as a 16-year-old in February 2020 from Dutch outfit FC Den Bosch and joined the under-18s set-up at Compton Park.

The youngster impressed and soon put pen-to-paper on a first professional contract seven months later, going on to establish himself at the academy.

He was a key component in last season’s memorable FA Youth Cup run, which saw the old gold reach the semi-final stage for the first time since 2005, as well as the promotion-winning PL2 team.

Comfortable in the heart of the defence or at left-back, Hubner has become a member of James Collins’ under-21s squad and recently represented Indonesia at under-20 level.

Academy manager for football, Jon Hunter-Barrett, said: “It’s another one we’re really happy to have been able to get done.

“Justin’s a youth international player for his country, a rock solid defender and excellent in one-on-one situations. He’s good aerially, has a presence and composure on the ball, and we think he has a bright future at the football club.”

Hubner has had to show the right attitude and application to adapt to life in England, and Hunter-Barrett has been impression with the way the defender has adjusted to living and playing football away from home in a different country.

“He’s made a seamless transition into playing football at a Premier League club,” Hunter-Barrett added. “Being here on his own in Wolverhampton isn’t easy, but we’re really delighted with his character and professionalism.

“The aim now is to establish himself in James’ side, with the view to maybe looking at a first-team loan in the summer.”
