Academy in Bratislava round-up

Wolves under-21s and under-18s have returned to England following a seven-day training camp in Bratislava.

For the second year running, the groups returned to the capital of Slovakia where they were once again based at X-bionic Sphere – a sports complex in the town of Samorin.

The youngsters were put through their paces in the 33-degree heat, as 6am starts on the running track, double sessions and two matches for each group made for an intense week in the pre-season sun.

Away from the pitch, the players continued their gym work, attended education and player care sessions, went cycling and got competitive in the swimming pool and on the volleyball court. In activities away from the complex, the under-21s went go-karting, while the under-18s worked as teams to canoe down the river Danube.

James Collins’ under-21s won one and lost one of their two games, with Budapest Honved travelling to X-bionic for the second successive year. Like last time out, the Old Gold were victors as Dani Angel (penalty), Matty Whittingham, Owen Farmer and Testimony Igbinoghene ensured a 4-0 success. In their second game, Wolves were narrowly beaten 1-0 by a Slovan Bratislava youth side made up of several first-team players.

Richard Walker’s under-18s, which also included a selection of under-16s, were beaten 3-2 by Spartak Trnava before goals from Bjorn Marwa, Ollie Stafford, Lennon Biggs and Hayden Ford ensured they ended the trip with a 4-2 victory over Slovan Bratislava.
