Matt Jackson has returned to Wolves in the role of head of professional football development, strengthening Matt Hobbs' footballing management team.
Jackson previously spent two years with the club, heading the strategic player marketing department and transforming the way young players are viewed at Compton Park, including their development, loan moves and, at times, their exits.
In the eight months since in departure in June 2023, Jackson served as president at Grasshopper Club Zurich and gained further experience in European football, which complements the more than 500 professional appearances he made in the Premier League and EFL.
Now Jackson will once again oversee the loan department at Wolves, but also work more closely with first-team recruitment, assessing those temporarily elsewhere or playing with the under-21s.
Sporting director Matt Hobbs said: “Matt is someone I was sad to lose. He’s a real confidant of mine and we were incredibly close. It’s great to have him back and he’ll work closely with me and the other guys we have on the senior management team. There’s a group of five and we try to drive everything forward, and he’ll come back into it.
“His role is an interesting one and a very important one for me and the football club. He was in charge of loans before and he’ll still oversee that, but he’ll also be linked with recruitment from our under-21s. It’s tying all that side together, so our recruitment tools aren’t purely outward recruitment, but also internal, through loans and our under-21s, so the pathway’s there for players who deserve it.
“He’s played at the highest level which is always useful for me to have that perspective, he knows what it’s like to cross the white line at a high level. It’s great to have him back, nothing really changes to what he did before, he just has more of an overarching influence on different departments.”
