Having started at the Premier League fixture against West Ham United last month, two interpreters will be present at the stadium to help supporters who use BSL to converse.
The interpreters – who will be hard to miss in their bright pink high-vis vests – will be based in the Billy Wright Stand lower tier during the match, but available to supporters in all four stands when needed, as well as in the ticket office, megastore and fan zone before kick-off.
Laura Wright, Wolves’ disability access officer, said: “Nicky and Dawn are looking to help supporters with hearing issues with any concerns associated with a matchday. They look forward to interpreting conversation between deaf BSL users and hearing people, and they will translate BSL into spoken English and spoken English into BSL for easy communication between both.
“Their main responsibilities are to listen carefully to or watch what is being signed and interpret to staff at the ground. They will find the best way to express everything that is said or signed and help a supporter with any query they might have.
“A recent example this was when one of the interpreters provided help to an away supporter who could not find his personal assistant in the crowds. The interpreter stepped in and helped to share his location and they were reunited before entering the ground and enjoying their visit to Molineux.
“If you are a deaf supporter or know someone who will benefit from this service, please ask your nearest steward who can get an interpreter to you. An interpreter will be located in the ticket office and megastore from 90 minutes before kick-off, then they will be available inside the ground until the final whistle.
“As Wolves are a progressive club who like to try new things, we also want to grow the pool of BSL interpreters we have to cover inclusive events, such as family fun days, tours and events and hospitality.”
