The Irishman was back at Molineux on Monday evening, watching Wolves defeat Liverpool in the FA Cup, before conducting the draw for the fourth round alongside Carl Ikeme, and he’s excited for the future of the club.
On the project
“As someone who holds Wolves close to their heart, having been here as a kid, it’s great to see.
“They were always hovering over the last few years and when they did get to the Premier League there wasn’t much backing, it was tough for the managers to stay in the league because they had to use different recruitment like loans.
“Now they have the money to go and buy the players, but it’s OK having the money, it’s about buying the right people and Wolves have done that.”
On adapting to the Premier League
“They’ve done very well. People were worried if they could make the step up from the Championship, as we know the Championship is very different, but the great thing about the manager is he hasn’t changed his philosophy.
“He’s stuck to his principles and played the same way, and the players have repaid him. He’s giving the players the opportunity to play in the best league in the world and they’re doing a great job.”
On being back
“It’s always nice to come back here, certainly with an outstanding performance from the team.
“It’s never easy when you play against a team like Liverpool, who’ve been on fire this season. Full credit to the team, they did very, very well and are into the next round of the FA Cup.”
On the FA Cup
“The beauty of the FA Cup is there’s no easy games, as we saw over the weekend. Whoever you play against, you have to respect them, and know you’re going to be in for a tough game.
“We’ve seen over the years that there can be so many upsets, there’s always one or two. Of course, Wolves are going to be the favourites, with the season they’re having, and how well they’ve been doing.”
