Spaniard Jonny shares what he gets up to once the game is finished in the latest edition of After the Final Whistle.
Back in the changing room
“I normally think about what’s happened in the game, what I could have done better, and speak to my family – it’s the first thing I do, speak with my wife and see my sons.”
Reacting to a win or loss
“I’m happier if we’ve won, of course. If we’ve lost, I’m not happy.”
Speaking to the press
“I don’t like to speak to the press. It’s our moment to take a break, disconnect from the game and rest.”
Starting recovery
“It depends if we’re playing in three days after the game, so we’ll start our recovery straight away after the game. If not, we take a break, from our mind, and start recovering the next day. Maybe I’ll have a massage, ice baths, cryotherapy, the bikes, it’s all there for us.”
Post-match food
“I prefer pizza after the games and chocolate to get my sugars up after the game.”
Getting over a defeat
“It takes a lot of time. Usually, until the night after a game, when I get to sleep. Usually, it’s the next day when I start again.”
Watching the game back
“Sometimes I watch, but I prefer to keep going. If we’ve lost, every game is different, so I just need to look to the next game.”
Social media reaction
“After the game nothing. It’s time to take a break for the next game. Maybe after the game we have a meeting with the players, or the defensive players, and watch the game, but after nothing.”
Relaxing and recovering
“I spend time with my kids, with my wife, my dogs. I’ll watch some TV, a film or series.”
Talking it through
“My wife, of course. Maybe we’ll talk about the game, but not too much, because she knows me, and I prefer to talk about the kids.”
