Dissecting some of most important Wolves goals under the ownership of Fosun which, although they’re not known as Goal of the Season contenders, were hugely significant in the club’s recent history.
Besiktas 0-1 Wolves | 3rd October 2019
Willy Boly made history when he, in the most dramatic of circumstances, earned Wolves their first win on the continent in 39 years back in 2019.
With the Old Gold back in the Europa League, the defender struck three minutes into stoppage time to sink Besiktas in Istanbul.
Boly took Ruben Neves’ brilliant pass in his stride and stroked home a composed finish to spark scenes of jubilation amongst the away end, high up at Vodafone Park.
“He took it really well. He’s a threat in both boxes – you see the size of him – but it doesn’t matter who scores when it’s that late in the game, as long as it goes in the net.” Matt Doherty
“It was good. In the end we were happy. I think the boys worked very hard. Through all the game we were competitive, believing until the end and we got this moment of Boly that gave us a good victory in a tough, tough stadium. Besiktas are a good team, they pushed us, but we were organised, so I’m happy for the boys.” Nuno Espirito Santo
The lasting impression
Wolves finished second in Group K, progressing to the knockout stages, while the Turkish side finished bottom. They went out at the same stage the following year, before reading the third round in 2021. During the last two years Besiktas didn’t compete in the Europa League.
