Dissecting some of most important Wolves goals under the ownership of Fosun which, although they’re not known as Goal of the Season contenders, were hugely significant in the club’s recent history.
Wolves 2-1 Chelsea | 15th December 2020
Wins were hard to come by for Wolves in the winter of 2020, with football behind closed doors, but an injury time from Pedro Neto against Chelsea ended that theme.
Daniel Podence had early cancelled out Olivier Giroud’s strike, but as Neto was sent through in the fifth minute of added time, his support was lacking, but it didn’t matter as the wide man took on Kurt Zouma and rifled into the bottom corner beyond Edouard Mendy to seal a dramatic win.
“It was very important. We came from two losses, but we are very happy with the game that we have done. I’m happy for the team. The work that the team did, it was amazing. We came here today with a joy and we want to win so much that we work so hard. We were down for one goal, but the mentality of this team is to continue and to get the three points and we are very happy.” Pedro Neto
“The games last until the last whistle of the referee. Everything has to be perfect to score a goal. Sometimes you finish the action very well and the goalkeeper makes a fantastic save and you think you have problems – just focus on the tasks, the lines of the ball and the final touch. When you work so hard like the boys did, we get our reward and we are happy.” Nuno Espirito Santo
The lasting impression
Wolves went on to finish the season in 13th, a big distance between the top half and bottom three.
Frank Lampard lost his Chelsea job the following month, but the Blues went on to finish fourth and win the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel.
