Dissecting some of most important Wolves goals under the ownership of Fosun which, although they’re not known as Goal of the Season contenders, were hugely significant in the club’s recent history.
Wolves 2-2 Everton | 11th August 2018
At Molineux on the opening day 2018, as Wolves embarked on life back in the Premier League, Everton were interested in spoiling the party.
The first goal back was always going to be significant, and in true Ruben Neves style, it was a classic. The Portuguese stepped over a free-kick on the edge of the box and bent a brilliant effort into the top corner, beyond Jordan Pickford.
That set the tone for a thrilling era in the top flight.
“It’s one more. I’m happy to help the team, but we have to work more, we have to give a little bit more to achieve better results in the future. We got one point, it’s good for the first game in the Premier League. Every game is going to be tough, the Premier League is the best championship in the world, we knew Everton are a very good team, but we worked well. We deserved a little bit more.” Ruben Neves
“We have character because we came back from a goal down twice, which is not easy. Today taught me that we can react to goals, but we have a lot to improve. We have always known we have quality but we are in a growing process. It was the first time for a lot of us in the Premier League but we will get better and better.” Nuno Espirito Santo
The lasting impression
Wolves and Everton would eventually finish side by side in the Premier League table. The Old Gold ended their first campaign back in seventh, earning them Europa League football ahead of the Toffees, who came in in third.
Three points separated the two after a successful season all round, with Wolves winning the return fixture at Goodison Park.
