Nuno delighted with Wolves' finishing against Spurs

Nuno Espirito Santo was delighted with the second half performance displayed by his team as Wolves fought back from a goal down to claim a 3-1 victory over Tottenham at Wembley.

Despite falling behind in the first half to a stunning Harry Kane strike, the Wolves head coach was pleased with how his team stuck with Spurs in the first 45 minutes, before taking their chances in the second period.

The victory lifts Wolves back up to seventh in the Premier League table, marking the end of an incredible 2018 for Nuno, his players and the club.

On victory over Spurs

“It was fantastic. We are very happy. We played a very good game in the second half, but even in the first half we were organised. Tottenham have a lot of qualities, they have talent, they have ability which creates a lot of problems, so we had to stay with them, stay balanced.

“In the first half I felt we stayed in the game, but the game changed in the second half, in our favour. We had the ball more, and when we have the ball more we can manage the game better.

“We had possession, we had chances, we had goals, and the boys worked very hard, were very organised against a very good Tottenham side.

“We had a lot of belief after the equaliser, but we cannot rely [on one goal], we want more, we want to improve, I would have said a draw was a good result, but I cannot control the emotions of the boys if they see space in front of them.”

On half-time team talk

“I told them to keep it the same, stay with them and do enough to stay in the game. Let’s have the ball and play, play to win. The way we have been playing for more than a year-and-a-half now.”

On touchline celebrations

“It was a good moment, because of scoring and because we had closed the game, we had finished the game with our third goal. We had ended our task.

“This kind of result is good for the dressing room, but more for us it’s about the performance, the way we play. This is the home of football – this is Wembley – and we are very proud of going out of here with what we have done.

“We have really performed well, and we have to keep on going, but it’s not week after week, it’s day after day – each training session we have to improve.”

On taking chances

“Today we were clinical. That was the difference, no doubts about it. Against Tottenham and these kinds of teams you have to be clinical and take the chances that you have. If not, you will be punished.

“It doesn’t matter which team come up in front of you, you play all the games. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, that’s the reality of football. We have to be ready for it.”

On achievements of 2018

“For us, especially for the club, we have achieved something very special. After getting back into the Premier League we had the intention to keep on improving.

“And the club is improving, even with the facilities and the support off the pitch, but we want to build a team and hopefully build a big club.”
