Nuno: Training camp has strengthened team's bond

Although his Wolves side are only mid-way through their warm weather training camp in Marbella, Nuno Espirito Santo insists the players’ minds are fully focused on Monday night’s clash with Newcastle United.

A squad of 23 players flew out to Spain following Tuesday night’s FA Cup victory over Shrewsbury Town which booked the team’s place in the fifth round and a trip to Bristol City next weekend.

The team are set to return to the UK on Sunday before the visit of Newcastle to Molineux and Nuno believes the trip to the continent has created a stronger bond between his players.

On warm weather training

“It’s been very good. The weather is good and the way the boys are working, they are committed, they are focused. It’s what we came for – to work hard and, at the same time, have these social bonds that we want to create stronger.

“It allows us to spend time together and when we like to be with each other, it’s good. It’s nice.

“We are working very hard, very focused and we’re going to be ready for Newcastle.

On return to Premier League action

“That is the only focus that we have. Back at Molineux on Monday against a tough team and we have to work very hard, improve things that we have to improve and back in Molineux with the support of our pack, we’ll try it.

“I love everything about football. When we have these special last-minute goals that gives you so much, like Matt’s [Doherty] did at Newcastle, it’s very enjoyable. We know that it’s very hard to repeat, but that shows the character the team has.

“You can see by their last performances that Newcastle are very organised, very compact and with good players. Very good players. It’s going to be a very tough game and they’re going to demand a lot from us.”

On recent performances

“We are very pleased. We had tough games and the response of the team has been good, but we know that the most important one is the next one, so we are preparing for the next one.”

On possibility of record four consecutive Premier League wins

“We’re not here for the records, we’re not here for that. What we are here for is to improve, to work as a team, stay humble and work hard, trying to achieve the best performance that we can in every game.

“This is the mentality that we have.”
