The central defender has played every minute of football for a Wolves side this season which are currently seventh in the Premier League and into the club’s first FA Cup semi-final since 1998.
On Wolves impressing in the Premier League
“It’s not just the fans who are enjoying it at the minute, we all are. We’ve got to be happy with what we’re doing at this football club, with a manager that we have and a football club that wants to do things like it wants to do.
“It’s a really happy place to be, so you can’t not be happy about it.”
On reaching FA Cup semi-final
“You can see how we’ve gone about the FA Cup all season. We said right back at the start of the competition when we played the games against Liverpool and Shrewsbury that we wanted to do well in the cup.
“There were no two ways about it, the manager told us that he wanted to do well, and it was important that we performed well and kept a winning mentality.
“It’s important we go into the semi-final looking forward to it, wanting to enjoy it, but also looking to win it, we can’t wait for it, as all the Wolves fans can’t either.”
On playing every minute for Wolves this season
“It’s easy with the players around me, they help me an awful lot. I’ve got some really good footballer around me who help me improve every single day.
“To me, what’s important is that I’m helping the team as much as I possibly can, if that’s on the pitch, talking to the boys, organising them, and it’s important that I keep on doing that.”
On being overlooked for England selection
“I don’t feel hard done by, not at all. This is England, this is the pinnacle of any Englishman’s career and I watched them last summer and thought they were really outstanding at the World Cup.
“It’s something that if it were to ever come, it would be amazing, but I keep on thinking to myself that I’ve got to get into a squad with some really fantastic footballers.
“It’s not something that I think I’m hard done by, I just keep getting on with it and as long as I’m doing well for Wolves and helping Wolves improve that’s all I’m bothered about.”
On Nuno’s impact
“Over the last two years, since the manager came in, he’s really changed the direction of the club and the way we’ve been going.
“I think it was needed. His staff have come in and they’ve been absolutely phenomenal, but in terms of the way the lads are playing it’s all down to him.
“Now, I think it’s important we all continue listening to him, keep on enjoying it and hopefully we can keep on getting better.
“From our point of view, we just want to keep improving, keep learning and we’ve got some fantastic footballers who really love the club, want to play for the club and want to improve the club as well.
“I think it’s really refreshing when you see these players coming over, but we just want to keep getting better. It’s our one game at a time mentality, and the next one for us is Burnley away.”
On playing boyhood club Liverpool on last day of the season
“Liverpool are obviously doing what they’re doing and doing really well, but for us to go there and win – I’d want us to go there and win it. It’s as simple as that.”
