Dendoncker still adapting to defence

Leander Dendoncker felt a draw with Sheffield United in Wolves’ previous Premier Leaguer fixture was a fair result following ‘a game of two halves’.

The Belgian international played his sixth consecutive match on the right side of the back three in the draw with the Blades following the injury Ryan Bennett suffered in early November, and he is expecting another tough battle in defence on Wednesday evening as Wolves remain at Molineux for another league match, but this time West Ham United are the visitors.

On a game of two halves

“I think it was a good game. They were maybe better in the first-half, I think we were better in the second-half. They are a good side, a very strong team, tough team physically.

“I think we did well, especially in the second-half, we scored and could have maybe scored a second time as well. In the end a draw is a good result.

“We showed that we still had some energy left after a very tough game in Portugal. I think it’s very important because we are a small squad, so it’s very important to be fit and to be there every game.”

On playing in defence

“It’s more defensive, but it’s not easy. It takes time to adapt. I’m trying to do my best, but it’s not always easy. I’m trying to give my best for the team and I’ll always try to keep on doing that. I’m ready whenever he needs me.”

On energy levels

“It’s difficult because we don’t have a lot of days to recover. When you have a difficult game like the one in Portugal, the pitch was very bad, in bad condition, and we’ve seen today that we are physically ready, even in the last 30 minutes.

“We were looking for the second goal because we were playing at home, that’s what our fans want, we gave everything and could have scored a second time, but we have to be honest, they were a good team as well, so I think a draw was a right result.”

On West Ham next

“It’s another tough game coming up on Wednesday, but we have to try to win because it’s a home game and I hope the fans will be there again. We go game by game.”
