Just three days earlier Wolves were taking on RCD Espanyol in Barcelona, but after a quick recovery and just four changes to the starting line-up, they stunned Tottenham. Matt Doherty and Diogo Jota both struck as Wolves came from behind twice to level, before Raul Jimenez fired home the winner to reward all the hard work put in over the past three days.
On coming from behind
“We were relentless and stayed in the game. We started the second-half much better, more organised, pressing, recovering the ball better and scored beautiful goals.
“Good movements and technical (goals) and it’s good for the fans behind the goal that we were able to come from behind at such a difficult stadium – a lot of credit.
“The game is finished when it’s finished. It’s something we’ve been able to do, come from behind, and finish strong. At the same time, we should start the game better.”
On the energy levels of his team
“The way the boys ran, it’s amazing, the energy levels we put in the game. They recovered very well, it’s a challenge and when you really embrace a challenge, you give everything that you have, and this is what we are doing, giving everything.
“We worked so hard. We played Thursday and the energy levels here were fantastic against a very tough team. We ran and the energy was amazing.
“Now we’re going to play Brighton. We’re going to recover because it was a tough schedule this week, we need time to recover well, and to prepare well for Brighton at Molineux.”
On seeing out the win
“We were stronger in that moment (the third goal), but then we had to defend because Tottenham put so many people up front. The moment we put Leander (Dendoncker) on the pitch, I think we were more balanced and the spaces were not there.”
“The team is special. The boys are really special, the way they gel, the way they work for each other, they help each other.”
On handling Tottenham
“I was not very pleased at half-time because we didn’t start the game well. We gave too much ball to Tottenham. Tottenham have such quality players, we were unbalanced and it’s always very difficult.
“It was a very tough game. I have huge admiration for Jose Mourinho, for me he’s a reference, but today was Tottenham against Wolves.”
