Coady on "phenomenal" Jimenez

Conor Coady labelled Raul Jimenez as “phenomenal” after the striker bagged his fourth goal of the season against Newcastle United on Sunday.

The Mexican, following on from his winner at Leeds Untied, fired home from the edge of the box to reward Wolves for their persistence against the Magpies. Unfortunately, however, only one of those three points would remain at Molineux come full-time, following a late equaliser which left a bitter taste in the mouth of the Wolves skipper.

On another Jimenez goal

“He’s a phenomenal footballer. His finish was fantastic, but it’s his all-round game that he brings to us. It’s not just his finishing, he’s fantastic and is a credit to this club.

“I speak about him every single week, everybody does, and his finishing he has in abundance, but it’s his work off the ball he does for us which is absolutely incredible and he’s massive for this club.”

On breaking down Newcastle

“We had a game plan. We knew Newcastle would come and sit in, they sit in well with a bank of five and are hard to break down. I think you have to be patient in these games, and we were.

“We got a fantastic goal towards the end with Raul, that’s what he can do, and then we should see the game out. I don’t know how many shots they had, but it wasn’t many, so we’re massively disappointed – it’s two points lost.”

On the free-kick which led to the goal

“First and foremost, I didn’t think it was a foul. You can’t even stand still in football now, it’s all I did. I thought, ‘I can’t win the ball, if I try and give the ball, I’ll give a foul away’, so I didn’t, I stood still, and I still gave a foul away.

“I can’t do anything else, I’m not invisible, I’ve got to stand there. If he touches me, it’s football, it’s what happens. I don’t think it was a foul, I’ll be totally honest, and then the lad scores.”

On two points dropped

“We feel like we’ve had two points taken away from us a little bit. We’re disappointed, we think we should have won, we had enough chances and possession of the ball, but I feel like the game’s been spoilt a little bit.”
