But the Wolves Foundation are still aiming to mark this season’s focus fixture against Everton on Sunday by shining a light on their extensive programme of activities.
The annual focus fixture normally offers a great opportunity to showcase the work of the Foundation on a daily basis, in and around Wolverhampton and beyond, as well as the chance for some vital fundraising thanks to the generosity of Wolves supporters.
“Under normal circumstances the Foundation fixture is one of our highlights of the year, offering a great opportunity to showcase our projects and activities to the club’s supporters at a packed Molineux,” says head of the Foundation, Will Clowes.
“We know how much both our staff and so many who benefit from the Foundation’s activities particularly enjoy the chance to take part in the half time lap of honour where they always receive such a fantastic reception from the Wolves fans.
“However, as with so many of our activities due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have had to adapt, and try and tell the story of the Foundation in a different way given that Sunday’s match is taking place behind closed doors.
“This has been ongoing over recent months since lockdown came into effect, in terms of the ‘virtual’ delivery of so many of our projects and an increased use of online resources, and hopefully our fans and partner organisations have been able to see how we have continued to do whatever we can to support the community.
“The first team players who are always so positive when getting involved with our activities, will be wearing Foundation warm-up shirts ahead of the game, and we are also very appreciative that the club and Premier League have agreed to the Foundation logo also being included on their playing shirts.
“Hopefully this will help promote the name and messages around the Foundation to a wider audience, and we would also encourage fans to follow our social media channels on the day and, if possible, help us recover from lost fundraising by making a donation via the new ‘Donate’ button on our website.”
Activities taking place for Sunday’s game against Everton include:
- As mentioned above, the players will be wearing Foundation warm-up t-shirts emblazoned with the words ‘Creating Opportunities, Changing Lives’ and a name on the back of a current or previous beneficiary of the charity’s activities.
- The Wolves’ first team shirts will also include the Foundation’s logo. Head Coach Nuno Espirito Santo will be wearing a ‘Foundation’ pin badge.
- The normal Foundation pages will be included within the matchday programme and there will be Focus Fixture specific mentions on the LED boards.
- A Foundation video playing during half time.
- New Foundation ambassador Jacqui Oatley will be interviewed pre-match on the Wolves Matchday Live Extra show on Wolves TV.
- New unique items of memorabilia to be uploaded onto the Foundation’s eBay site and the opportunity for fans to make a donation to support the charity from its website.
