Those days will return again, but, in the meantime, this summer, young football fans can take part in a virtual soccer school with an activity a day being posted online by the Foundation.
The video clips will be posted on Twitter and Facebook each day during August, with participants taking part at home encouraged to then interact and reply by filming themselves completing the activity and posting to social media.
“Although there are certain outdoor activities we are looking to restart over the coming weeks, unfortunately we haven’t been able to use our usual venues for Soccer Schools such as the Arena at Aldersley, due to the government guidance around activity taking place indoors,” said Foundation senior manager Tom Warren.
“So instead, our staff have spent some putting together some drills and activities on video which will be released individually on each day of August.
“People at home can then find some space and have a go at the activities, and where possible film themselves and post on social media where our staff will be able to check out all the skills on display!
“Hopefully by the end of the month those who have been following the videos will have picked up some new techniques and enjoyed the benefits of staying healthy and active, and ready to take part – in person – at our Soccer Schools in the future.”
Staff that would normally have been working on the Soccer Schools have been re-deployed onto other projects, as the Foundation plans to gradually put on more activities in keeping with regulations.
Although obviously the videos are available to view free of charge, any parent or guardian wishing to make a donation would be encouraged to do so to support the Foundation’s continuing programme of activities at a time when it has lost a proportion of fundraising income due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
