The Foundation were one of Councillor Brackenridge’s chosen charities to be supported during the year, and he attended several events including a Healthy Goals session for pre-school toddlers and their parents, and a HAF (Holiday Activities and Food) course at D’Eyncourt Primary School.
He also took part in last year’s Molineux Sleepout, and chose this year’s event to pop in and reveal the fantastic fundraising total and present the cheque.
“I have always been a huge Wolves fan but, more than that, I have seen the fantastic work which Wolves Foundation carry out in the local community,” said Councillor Brackenridge, who represents Wednesfield South.
“Wolves are a true community club and the Foundation put on so many projects from pre-school activities to supporting people with dementia and, overall, cater for those from nought to 100 years-old.
“The club is the most iconic feature that we have in Wolverhampton and when you go around the world people have always heard of Wolves.
“The Foundation carry that name into the work that they do and I thought going back to the Sleepout, which I took part in last year, was a really good opportunity to thank everyone who is involved with the charity and present the cheque.”
As a keen sports-lover himself, Councillor Brackenridge also acknowledged that it was also important for him to select a charity which encourages people to become physically active.
“I love sport, I used to play rugby a lot when I was younger and I was a boxer as well,” he added.
“It’s always great to see the Foundation encouraging people to be more active but at the same time it’s about so much more than that.
“The Foundation’s holiday activities which I went to visit were excellent but also being able to give the young people food and encourage healthy eating was another major positive.
“I am delighted to have chosen Wolves Foundation as one of the charities to benefit from my year as Mayor and hope the amount raised will help them to continue their excellent work across the city of Wolverhampton.”
Tom Warren, Foundation senior manager (projects), added: “Councillor Brackenridge has been a keen supporter of Wolves Foundation for many years, and I actually remember coaching his son on one of our activities almost 15 years ago.
“We were delighted to be selected as one of the beneficiaries from the Mayor’s Charitable Fund.
“As a charity, fundraising is hugely important to ensure we can continue to deliver our range of projects, and this is a really generous donation will have a really positive impact on our programme of activities within the city.”
The other Mayoral charities supported during the year were the Alternative Giving CIO supporting homeless charities and the Staffordshire Regiment (Prince of Wales) Regimental Charity.
