The 20-year-old has been the first-choice stopper for Wolves under-23s for the past three seasons, performing admirably for James Collins’ side, but he will now head back to his homeland to get his first taste of senior football.
The Dane’s development has been impressive since his arrival in England back in January 2018 from Odense Boldklub, where he’s progressed through the youth system.
After establishing himself as part of the first-team squad at Molineux during the past 12 months, where he backed up the club’s senior keepers, Sondergaard is yet to make his competitive debut for Wolves, although he appeared among the substitutes bench in the Premier League, Europa League and Carabao Cup in recent seasons.
Matt Jackson, strategic player marketing manager at Wolves, said: “Goalkeepers take that little bit longer in terms of maturity due to the number of opportunities they get at first-team level, but Randers are going brilliantly well in the Danish Superliga, so Andreas will be going into a very positive environment.
“He will be competing with a very experienced goalkeeper, so he will learn what it takes to become a number one keeper, while also supporting the goalkeeping network there.
“But for our goalkeepers, we expect them to have these competitive elements on their CV, and Andreas’ development so far has been really positive, and this move will give him even more experience.
“We feel it’s a great compliment that at 18-years-old, or 20-years-old in Andreas’ case, that our players coming through the Academy system have had such good support which means they’re independent enough to go into these first-team environments and compete, regardless of where they may be in the world.”
Sondergaard’s move will see him stay at last season’s Danish Cup champions until 31st December and he could make his debut appearance next week as Randers face FC Copenhagen following the international break.
