The Academy graduate was enjoying life at the League One outfit having initially joined Cheltenham on loan last summer, where he was named their player of the month for September 2021.
However, after suffering an injury in the first half of the Robins’ 1-0 win over Accrington Stanley the following month, he was brought back to Compton Park where he underwent rehabilitation, before featuring heavily in the season run-in for the under-23s as they secured promotion into Premier League 2 Division 1.
Having spent the early weeks of pre-season training with Bruno Lage’s first-team, Perry now returns to the Completely-Suzuki Stadium, and Wolves’ strategic player marketing manager Matt Jackson hopes the 20-year-old can get a complete season under his belt to help build his promising career.
Jackson said: “TP’s loan move back to Cheltenham is very similar to Lewis Richards’ situation and his return to Harrogate and the ‘unfinished business’ tag we gave to that.
“That situation is very applicable to TP as well because he was very well settled into the team and he’d just won the club’s player of the month award when he picked up his injury, and that curtailed his season.
“It will be another big learning experience for him, and another loan where we can take out the risk element out. He’s going back to an environment that we know he is comfortable in, he knows how to play, and it works geographically for us and for him as well.
“The lads set their own levels with their performances and there’s always recall clauses in for them so they can step up to find the level they’re best playing at. But like any professional, they have to play a lot of games, and that’s the case with TP.
“He’s shown that he has the quality to play league football, but now the challenge for him is to play week after week after week. That’s what the best professionals do, and that’s how you build a career. There’s plenty of positives with this loan and we’re really looking forward to him getting a full season.”
