With the 2022/23 season now at the business end and promotions, relegations and cup finals taking centre stage, it has been a busy and memorable Bank Holiday weekend for some of Wolves’ loan stars.
Fabio scores decisive penalty to lift Dutch Cup
Fabio Silva’s winning penalty ensured that PSV Eindhoven retained the Dutch Cup following a 3-2 shootout win over Ajax.
With the game ending 1-1 after extra time, Silva stepped up to score the decisive spot-kick after coming on as a substitute in the 106th minute to earn a second successive Dutch Cup for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side.

PSV are targeting qualification for the Champions League, currently sitting second in the Eredivisie – eight points off leaders Feyenoord and three points ahead of Ajax in third.
Silva has scored four times since his move to the Netherlands in the second half of the season, three off the tally he achieved with Anderlecht between July and January.
Lonwijk secures promotion to the Championship
Nigel Lonwijk helped Plymouth Argyle return to the second tier of English football for the first time since 2010, as Steven Schumacher’s side confirmed their automatic promotion out of League One alongside Ipswich Town with victory over Burton Albion on the weekend.
Former Wolves forward Niall Ennis scored the clinching goal at Home Park to spark jubilant scenes in Devon.
Lonwijk, who has spent the whole season with Plymouth, has played an integral role throughout the campaign, making 35 League One appearances.
The Green Army can clinch the league title with victory in their final day trip to Port Vale on Sunday afternoon – success at Vale Park will also mean surpassing the 100-point mark.
Professional debut for Smith
The weekend was a memorable one for goalkeeper Jackson Smith, who was given his senior bow by Walsall on Saturday afternoon.
Smith, 21, replaced Owen Evans at the half-time interval and kept a clean sheet as the Saddlers drew 0-0 at Crawley Town in their penultimate League Two fixture this season.
Yerson on target for Cincinnati
Defender Yerson Mosquera hit the MSL headlines, scoring the opening goal in FC Cincinnati’s 1-1 draw with New England Revolution.
The 21-year-old has now found the back of the net on two separate occasions since heading out on loan, with his latest goal also resulting in a place in the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 10.

Cundle strikes for Swans
Luke Cundle was on the scoresheet in Swansea City’s final away fixture of the Championship campaign.
The on-loan midfielder struck for Russell Martin’s side after 39 minutes at Hull City, equalising after a Benjamin Cabango own goal had given the hosts the lead after three minutes.
In his first loan move away from Molineux, Cundle has played 31 times in the second tier this season, scoring twice and assisting four times for the Swans.
