Kortney Hause could be back in the squad for Saturday’s trip to Huddersfield (3pm) – but Mike Williamson will still be unavailable as Wolves head to the John Smith’s Stadium.
Hause came through 90 minutes for the Under-21s in last night’s Birmingham Senior Cup tie with Solihull Moors, following on from 45 in a behind-closed-doors friendly match with Northampton last week.
And that could see him involved in the squad for Saturday for the first time since sustaining a hamstring injury against Middlesbrough last October.
January signing Williamson, who picked up his hamstring problem after returning to Newcastle following his Wolves loan spell towards the end of last year, is making good progress but will need some form of reserves or friendly runout before being considered for senior action.
“We hope Kortney will be available – we’ve been very thorough and diligent with him because it was a recurrence of his hamstring injury,” said Head Coach Kenny Jackett.
“Mike Williamson is progressing, but he’s not near a game yet in terms of the Under-21s or, more likely, an in-house game.
“He’ll need one, but we can do that and make sure he gets that as and when he is ready.”
James Henry will be sidelined for three weeks with a hamstring injury as the misfortune with recent injuries continues to build up.
But Jackett says that any player missing has to be viewed as an opportunity for whoever is coming in.
“It is a big chance and a big opportunity,” he says.
“We have to find some strengths and capitalise on them quickly.”
“In the forward positions finding some consistency is something we need to do.”
In those forward positions Jackett is keen to see new signing Joe Mason develop from his goalscoring start.
“Mason got in three or four times very well against a Preston defence it was tough to get in behind,” said Jackett.
“He showed good composure and a good selection of finish which does promise well for the future.
“Even in my preferred 4-3-3 formatino, both Edwards and Henry have been a goal threat and have got goals this season.
“Losing goals through your team makes it tough and so Mason getting two is very good, and something we have to keep working on and capitalising on.
“It is early days but we feel Joe can finish, and providing those chances is a big thing.”
