We're Playing As A Team

Nouha Dicko explained that he enjoys playing in Wolves’ current system and that he feels the squad is already playing like a team.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have won both of their opening pre-season friendlies, defeating Werder Bremen 1-0 on Wednesday before running out 2-1 winners over Viktoria Plzen on Saturday evening.

“It’s been quite a good few games for me and for the team as well, which is good to see,” explained Dicko.

“For my personal confidence, it is good to see that - I feel good, the way we play is good for everyone, I think we all enjoy it and I certainly do.

“I certainly like playing within the new system.

“We’re playing as a team already - we’ve had some new players and a new manager, some changes over the summer here but I feel like it suits us at the minute and hopefully it can only get better and I think it will because we have the players.

“We managed to create quite a good amount of chances during the first few games - as a striker it’s always a bit easier to score when you have good chances and that’s what I managed to do, hopefully that will continue.

“We have good players and at the minute we’ve played two teams and we’ve managed to do well against both.

“It’s still the beginning but if we can keep going this way and improving it’s going to be a good season for us.”

Pre-season training is notorious for being a tough time for the players as they’re brought up to the peak of their fitness.

And while he admitted that the training has been hard work, Dicko also revealed that he has enjoyed the focus on ball work.

“Pre-Season is important to any players, especially a player like me who is very powerful and physical. If I don't have these basics, I think it’s hard for me to play at the top of my game.

“It’s been a tough pre-season but I’ve enjoyed it because I needed that.

“It’s been a completely different pre-season to what I’ve seen recently at Wolves - there’s been a lot of ball work but it’s been really intense as well.

“Everything that we’ve been doing has been with the ball and I think that shows on the pitch as well - sometimes I have been tired in training sessions and it’s been tough but we kept working and kept focused and in the end I think we’ve improved since the beginning of pre-season.

“It’s important to say that we've improved - it is down to the philosophy of the manager and his way of viewing things. The manager’s new philosophy hasn't been a problem for us which is a good thing.”

With the start of the 2017/18 season drawing ever closer, the striker compared his position now to this time last year and explained how eager he is to get started.

“Last season I was coming back from a bad injury so there are a lot of things that weren't helping me - sometimes, the way we played wasn't easy for me.

“Now, it’s early days but I’ve scored some goals and it's good for me - hopefully this will be a good sign for the season.

“I certainly want to stay focused and keep it is this way for the fans that are behind me and who have supported me, the club who have supported me and my family.

“From day one you are looking forward to the first game of the season. As the weeks go on, you look a bit more towards the first game.

“Now it is all about building the confidence, building the philosophy and building the new way of the manager.

“We have to take it game by game and not to jump too quick - we are still learning and we have to be ready for the first game.

“We have four more games and I don't know how many games that we will all play before the start of the season but now it is all about learning and trying to prepare for the first game in the right way.”
