Goals in either half from Ryan Sessegnon and Aleksandar Mitrovic secured victory for the hosts as Nuno Espirito Santo's men fell to their fifth league defeat of the season.
Reflecting on the game, Douglas explained that Wolves were not good enough on the day but believes that the team can take a lot from the fixture.
He said: "We're disappointed. Overall, I don't think it was good enough and we were the first to say that ourselves in the dressing room. We were a bit flat.
"I think if you look back at the first half, it was exactly what we set up to do.
"It was a bit of a sucker punch that they got the goal when they did because our game plan had been effective up until that point.
"If we'd gone into the break at 0-0 and kept our game plan then we would have created chances. But that's football and sometimes we need to learn to deal with different situations.
"We lost but we will take a lot from it. Games like this is where we learn the most.
"We've got 12 cup finals left but we can't look that far ahead, we just need to look at our next game and take it one step at a time.
"It's quite an unusual situation that we're finding ourselves in and this season's all about a learning curve.
"When we're on a high it's brilliant, but now is when we really find out about ourselves and it's where the boys need to step up and show their character."
When asked if conceding a late goal to Norwich City in the game prior to Saturday's trip to Craven Cottage had played on the team's mind, Douglas responded: "I think subconsciously.
"You want to say that we don't dwell on the past and just get on with it but, if you lose a goal in the last minute then it's going to take it out of you and play on your mind a bit.
"We've got so many games left now and there's still a lot of points to pick up, we just need to stay positive.
"Likewise, we need the supporters backing now more than ever.
"We've not found ourselves in this situation so it's going to be challenging but I'm sure we can come through with everyone pulling in the same direction."
