Coady determined to bounce back at Cardiff

Conor Coady says Wolves will look to capitalise on a swift return to action and bounce back from what he called their 'poorest' performance of the season against Huddersfield.

Two goals from Aaron Mooy gave the visitors a deserved win at Molineux on Sunday, with Wolves looking sluggish for periods of a game in which they failed to mount any concerted pressure on the Terriers' goal.

Due to both that defeat and Friday night's trip to Cardiff being televised, though, Wolves have a shorter-than-usual turnaround between weekend fixtures as they look to bounce back, something which Coady sees as a positive.

"We were really poor today," the captain admitted. "Every one of the players needs to take responsibility for that. That's probably the poorest we've been all season, if I'm being honest. It wasn't good from our point of view and Huddersfield came with a game plan, stuck to it and did really well.

"It wasn't like us at all - we were sloppy on the ball and we didn't really get phases of play together, so we've got to go back to the drawing board.

"Any game is a game to look forward to in the Premier League, and I think we're all quite happy that the Cardiff game is coming sooner rather than later. It's the worst feeling in football, getting beaten, but we've got to go again - Friday is a big game for us."

Friday's trip to South Wales will evoke memories of last season's extraordinary encounter between the two sides in the Championships - also played under the floodlights on a Friday evening - in which Wolves took the lead and saw their opponents miss two stoppage-time penalties to come away with the most dramatic of victories, which edged Nuno Espirito Santo's side closer to the title.

While the feelgood factor from last season and encouraging performances against the Premier League's giants will have been chipped away at slightly following the Huddersfield defeat, Coady is adamant that Wolves will stick to their principles in order to rebuild the optimism.

He continued: "We've not become a bad team overnight with one bad performance. It's quiet in our dressing room at the moment but we'll come in again on Tuesday, listen to the manager and look at how we can improve.

"We'll look at how to counter the ways that Huddersfield have got the upper hand over us today and we'll go again.

"We need to improve as a team and look ahead to Friday, which is a big game for us. We all know what Cardiff are about and what sort of game that's going to be, so we'll make sure we're prepared."
