Moutinho urges Wolves to continue 'Spurs spirit'

Joao Moutinho is calling on his Wolves teammates to replicate their spirited performance against Tottenham Hotspur throughout the rest of the season.

The experienced Portuguese international came off the bench in the 68th minute when Wolves were behind to Spurs at Wembley on Saturday and put in an exceptional performance to help inspire his team to a 3-1 victory.

Following the match, the 32-year-old midfielder spoke about Wolves playing with the same style, regardless of opposition, his side seeing more of the ball in the second half and another win against a team in the ‘top six’.

On Spurs comeback

“The key is all the group, all the players who were playing today and those who didn’t play, the sacrifice – we do it all the week, all these months – we work a lot and that’s the result of our training, our sessions.

“But that’s it. That’s our football. We can play it against big teams and small teams, we need to do the same and have the same spirit, and against Tottenham, our spirit came out and we won.”

On second half possession

“We felt a little bit of this. Tottenham tried to play more, get the ball forward and flowing in the first half, and we did all the things to change that and we scored three goals, which is an amazing result for us.

“I need to give thanks to the supporters who came to Wembley because they are with us at every game we go to, they are important for us, and it’s a great result for the club, the fans, and we need to continue.”

On wins against the ‘top six’

“It’s good for us and it’s another three points against big teams, teams who are in the running for the title of the Premier League, but we need to continue to win more points, win not only against these big teams, because we want more and we’re training every day for that.”
