Wolves were a goal and man down with 19 minutes against City and could have crumbled against a side who’d scored 16 goals in their previous two matches, but instead remained resolute. Rui Patricio’s goal was breached two more times, by a penalty and own goal, but Bennett took heart from Wolves’ application.
On Wolves’ attitude
“We worked hard, stuck together and dug in, but sometimes it happens. Teams have come here with 11 men and got worse results than that, we knew it was going to be tough down to ten men, but it wasn’t our night.”
On facing City
“It’s tough. I think everyone’s seen how they play, it’s no secret. We knew it was going to be tough beforehand and going down to ten men makes it even harder.
“We tried to dig in as much as we could, but it was always going to be tough.”
On relentless City
“It’s difficult with 11 against them. They keep coming and maybe that’s the difference between them and other teams, some other teams will be comfortable at 2-0 and sit off a little bit more, but they keep coming and coming, and it makes it tough.
“We tried to dig in as much as we could, but it wasn’t our night, so we’ve got to go again next week.”
On refereeing decisions
“I haven’t seen it back (the red card), so I can’t comment. From where I’m stood it’s hard to see, I didn’t have a clear view of it.
“I thought it was soft (the penalty). Personally, I think he’s going down and some of their players said it was soft as well, but the ref’s given it and it is what it is.”
