Despite Doherty’s second-minute strike, Shrewsbury led at Molineux, only for the Irishman to haul the hosts level before the break. It proved crucial, as Wolves went on to progress, but they knew they’d been in a real game come the full-time whistle.
On just getting through
“The performance wasn’t the most important thing, it was getting through to the next round and we managed to do that. It was obviously a little bit tougher than people might have expected, especially when you go 1-0 up so early, but we got the job done and we go to Bristol City now.
“We knew it was going to be tough, but I guess when you go a goal up that you kind of think that maybe this could be a bit easier than we made out, but fair play to them, they came back into it.
“I know they’re not in the best of form in the league, but they came back in and got ahead, and I guess they thought that was their chance to hold out, but we managed to come back and get it done in the end which was really important.”
On the first game’s experience
“At no point really was I thinking we wouldn’t get through the tie in the end. I mean, we had some fire power on the bench also. I don’t think we were playing that badly, it was just that they had two half chances and scored twice.
“We’ve showed character in the end to come back and win. Obviously, the conditions weren’t the easiest, but I’m happy enough to get the win.”
On the next round
“We’ve got Bristol City in the next round and we always play a strong team, so we will obviously be going there to win the game and then it’s the quarters, you’re only three games away. Not many teams are going to want to play us, so I don’t see why we can’t go quite far.”
On his brace
“It was kind of the ‘right place right time’ on both of them. They weren’t far out, nothing like that. I guess you have to be clever enough or you’ve got to be able to read where it might be in the end and I managed to do that, and they’re both in.
“I am just happy with whatever kind of goal I score to be honest. It’s a really good feeling when you score a goal - I think that’s six I have now and obviously I will be looking to get as many as I can and see if I can get to ten by the end of the season.”
