A place in the quarter-final is up for grabs, but Sunday’s tie has all the ingredients of a classic FA Cup tie and Nuno knows exactly what to expect. Last season’s trip to Ashton Gate proved memorable in the bid for promotion and the Robins are unbeaten in 15 matches going into the FA Cup tie, so Wolves have prepared themselves for a huge challenge in front of the BT Sport cameras.
On the FA Cup preparations
“We think how we’re going to play, the things we’re going to do in Bristol. We know it’s going to be very tough because they are a good team, in good momentum and we know what happened last season. All these circumstances are what we really look at and we should focus on.
“In the FA Cup, we cannot forget, we started against Liverpool, then we went to Shrewsbury, and both of those challenges were so, so difficult. Now we are in the fifth-round, so we know how tough it’s going to be. We go step by step, knowing the only way to go through is by competing to the best of our standards on Sunday.”
On having the same approach
“What I think is we are doing a good job, having these points in this moment of the competition, but the table doesn’t mean anything to us, we go game by game. Now we have the FA Cup, then we go to Bournemouth, we know how hard it’s going to be. We go game by game and I think that’s the best way because I believe that we have a good chance to improve as a team.
“We don’t separate the competitions. We look at the game of Sunday, it doesn’t matter what competition we’re involved in, it doesn’t matter where you’re going to play the opponent. We spend the same time, doing the same things, trying to go to the last detail which can help us compete better.”
On his and Lee Johnson’s course
“Me, Lee and a lot more people were there (on the coaching course). We’ve known each other since that moment in Scotland. We spoke last season and he invited me to his office, we spent some time together (after last year’s trip).
“Both of us want to compete, he’s doing very well, the job he’s doing is fantastic. He lost so many players in his team but still keeps on fighting. Nine wins in a row, they are in a good position in the Championship, and I know how hard the Championship is. I have a lot of respect and admiration.”
On another late goal on Monday
“We work to try and score. It doesn’t matter when you score, what’s important is to try and believe and stay in the game, knowing that until the referee says it’s over, for us it’s not, so we keep on going.
“We show a lot of character, belief and the big hearts of the boys because they go to the limit of their strengths and keep on going. I’m very proud. We are happy with the way the boys have been working, it all comes to them, the way they commit themselves to the work.”
