Late goal key for momentum, says Coady

Conor Coady was pleased to see Wolves’ efforts and endeavour not go to waste against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, as Raul Jimenez’s late penalty earned a point.

Wolves were in for a real battle at the Vitality Stadium, where penalty incidents were the centre of attention, with the visitors earning a point as Matt Doherty was fouled and Jimenez converted. That extended the unbeaten run in all competitions to eight matches, which Coady believes was vital for maintaining the positivity ahead of a quick return to action on Tuesday.

On maintaining momentum

“Just coming to a tough place and coming away without getting beat, that was the most important thing. We wanted to keep the run going, we didn’t want to get beat, we wanted to keep these performances going and keep on improving. There’s a lot to improve on, but we’ll look at it, we’ll get better and we’ll be ready for Tuesday.

“The Premier League is so good and there’s so many different things going on within it but every game’s tough. It doesn’t matter who you’re coming up against. We need to make sure we perform right on Tuesday otherwise we’ll make it a tough night for ourselves.”

On an eventful afternoon

“It was a really tough game, I’ll be honest. We knew it was going to be tough coming into it. Bournemouth are a fantastic team, they’ve got some really good players and they move it and press you really well, so we needed to be on it.

“I thought the least we deserved in the end was a point. I thought we played some good stuff at times, we beat the press at times but, they’re a good team so to come away with a point’s not too bad.”

On another late goal

“It shows that we’re very close, we never give in. We know that we’ve got players that will go to the very end, it doesn’t matter who’s on the pitch or who’s coming on, we’ve got players that will go to the very end.

“We always know that we’ll keep on going and a chance will come. We’ve got players who can take them - you look at Raul in front of goal and his penalty, it’s a sensational penalty and you can see how full of confidence he is.

“We’ve had a few different penalty takers this year, but Raul’s put it away and it was a sensational one too.”

On Doherty’s role in the penalty

“Doc’s got such an engine on him. He’s up and down all game, he’s a fantastic footballer. What he’s done this year has been nothing short of remarkable, the way he’s adapted to the Premier League, we knew he could do that.”

On repelling Bournemouth

“It was tough. I thought we defended okay actually. I didn’t think the first penalty was a penalty either, if I’m being honest. I didn’t think Joao touched him. We’re disappointed to concede, we always want to keep clean sheets but, we dug in to the end. To come away with a point is not too bad.”
