United are the visitors to Molineux on Tuesday night, replicating the FA Cup quarter-final fixture which set up this weekend’s trip to Wembley for Nuno’s men, but the head coach insists his players will not be distracted by Sunday’s forthcoming semi-final.
On recovering from Saturday’s loss at Burnley
“We will train well and prepare ourselves well for the game. It’s the second day after the game, some players are going to recover, they will do a small amount of training and then we’re going to prepare for tomorrow, which will be a tough challenge.”
On FA Cup victory over United
“We competed well, we were very organised, and we have to do it again because the game will require a lot from us.
“That was a big moment, but we know that tomorrow is completely different. Every time we play a team like Manchester United we have to be ready to compete.
“We know how good they are, they have fantastic players, a fantastic manager, all the history – they’re a huge club – but we are ready and want to compete well at Molineux.”
On Ole Gunnar Solskjaer becoming permanent United boss
“I don’t know what pressures will be on him, but I do know that he has done an amazing job and was a fantastic gentleman when I met him, so I’m really pleased for him.
“He’s done a fantastic job; clearly the team reacted, and the performances and results came. The talent was always there, and tomorrow is going to be no different.”
On seven games unbeaten at Molineux
“The support of our fans helps a lot. The back-up of the team, the way they push, the way they sing, it’s extra for us and we have to take advantage of it.”
On FA Cup semi-final ‘distraction’
“The reality is that we have two games this week and we cannot get away from that, but the best way to compete in both of them is to go game-by-game.
“We will focus on our tasks on Tuesday and then think about the next one. It’s the best way to approach a competition, in my opinion.
“The players don’t have to prove themselves. I honestly think the players are working very hard, very well, and it’s up to us to decide who plays [on Sunday].
“We have a squad – a small squad, but a really hungry squad – and this is the best part of it.”
