Early goals need addressing, says Dendoncker

Leander Dendoncker insists Wolves must address their issue of conceding early in games if they are to finish the Premier League season strongly.

In the past two Premier League away games, Wolves have given themselves an uphill task by conceding within two minutes, which has led to defeats on each occasion. At St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday, Dendoncker and his team mates were pleased with their performance in large parts, but the early goal against proved costly once again.

On conceding early

“In the first minute, that’s where it went wrong. Just like in the Burnley, we had to be coming from behind – we had to follow and come back from 1-0. They got the first goal way too quick and we were behind straight away, so it’s difficult.

“It’s important to keep them zero, because it gets very difficult to come from behind every time, and we have to see what we can do. In the first-half we had three chances against, and two times it goes in, so we have to do something.”

On enjoying good spells

“First-half we controlled quite well, with some chances, and managed to score, but then they go the second against us straight away, which makes it even more difficult. Second-half we started out well, we had a few chances, but once they got the third we collapsed.”

On no FA Cup hangover

“We said to each other this week that the semi-final is behind us, that we have to move on and try to finish the season well and I think everybody wanted a good result, to fight for seventh place, but it’s a defeat.

“We wanted to get a good result and play a good game. I don’t think we played a bad game, but we have to look at ourselves. I think we can do better, so it’s up to the next game.”
