Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad arrived at their Shanghai base on Sunday evening to a warm welcome and the skipper knows the importance of building relationships in China. However, with two friendly matches on the schedule this upcoming week, Coady insists the focus remains fully on the football, particularly with Wolves’ season starting earlier than normal this summer.
On arriving in China
“It has been a great welcome. We had a long flight coming over, but we’re happy be here. It’s amazing because we don’t often come to places like this.
“We’ve got to remember where we were three years ago in the Championship, we weren’t getting these opportunities, so to be here now and see the amount of people who come out and look at what Wolves are doing is fantastic.
“We all know how good Fosun have been for Wolves over the last few years and how much they’ve done to move the club forward with the manager and players who’ve come in, so it’s great for us to be here in China.”
On the focus of football
“It’s about the football, it’s as simple as that. We’ve got a massive game which we’re really looking forward to. We want to enjoy China, experience everything about it, but we’re here for football and that will never change.
“You’ve got to work as hard as you possibly can in the heat to get yourself as fit as possible, because a week Thursday we have a huge game and we’re starting earlier than everybody else so we’ve got to make sure we’re doing it properly.”
On improving in the Europa League
“It’s brilliant. As a club, we want to embrace it as much as possible. People talk about it being a lot of games, but we go into every game to enjoy them.
“We listen to the manager. His ideas are fantastic in terms of what he brings to the training pitch. We listen to him and that’s the only way we’re going to improve, by taking on board his ideas.
“Last season was amazing. I look back on it with fond memories for me and my family, with it being my first Premier League season, but I just want to keep helping this club as much as possible. I’m part of a fantastic football club that wants to keep improving.”
