With Wolves spending the week in Shanghai – the home of club owners Fosun – it’s been hard work on the training pitch as well as hard work off it for Coady and the players, as they indulged in Chinese culture throughout a range of activities, visits and events which have been laid on for them. While the tour has also given them a chance to meet the adoring Wolves fans across the globe.
On a week of experiences in China
“It’s been amazing, the week itself in general, the football side of it, the events off the pitch for the owners and for Fosun, that has been fantastic for us.
“More important for the players is that we’ve done it right, we’ve prepared right, we’ve listened to the manager as much as possible, we’ve been training hard and making sure we’re as fit as possible.
“But the way that people have taken to Wolves, taken us in and showed us that support this week has been fantastic, because we remember where we were as a club three or four years ago, so to be where we are now, and the type of situation we’re in now, we need to make the most of it and make sure we keep on improving.”
On pre-season preparations
“The whole experience of being here in China has been brilliant. But not just now, the whole of pre-season has been good. We were back quite early because we knew we had the Europa League game coming up next week, but it’s been a fantastic week here in China.
“The amount of training we’ve done and obviously the game the other night which was good from our point of view, so it’s been good to get our ideas back across and refresh out brains from last year.
“But we want to keep on improving, we’re in the game we wanted to be in come tomorrow, so we’ll be looking forward to that as well.”
On the Asia Trophy final
“For us, it’s about competing, preparing right and make sure we’re ready for next week. We want to win every game, that never changes with us and our team, we want to get that same winning mentality that we had last season.
“That never changes but we also realise we have a huge game next week that we’re preparing right for and there’s no better game to be involved in than playing Manchester City.
“We’re looking forward to it, we really are, because that’s the game we really wanted to be involved in, and now we’re there were going to make sure we compete properly come tomorrow.”
On Manchester City’s threat
“There’s no strategy to defend (one particular player), we know how good Manchester City are, we’ve seen that all last season and the previous seasons. I think it’s important we stick to what we do, we’re better when we work as a team, work in a shape, and when we do it together.
“It’s more than important that we do it tomorrow, because we know how good Manchester City are, it’s not just one player, it’s not just Raheem Sterling, they have ten other players who can hurt you as well.
“It’s something we’re looking forward to because you always want to test yourself against those sorts of players. It’s an exciting game for us.”
