The Spanish speedster has been deputising for Matt Doherty while the Irish right wing-back recovers from an injury he picked up at the start of pre-season, and he believes this transition will only benefit him going forward as Nuno increases the versatility of a small squad ahead of Thursday night’s Europa League match with Crusaders in Belfast.
On facing Crusaders
“It will be a tough game (last week). We have been working hard with the coaches and we are ready. I’m always working hard and I’m happy to help the team – 100 per cent. The next game is Crusaders, so we focus on that.
On the 4G pitch at Seaview
“It doesn’t matter the pitch. Before I used to play on these pitches as well – whatever the pitch the object is to win and play well.”
On playing wing-back
“I’ve been working with Nuno especially about a defensive way to play like a wing-back. I’ve been working so hard with him. I will keep working with him and give my best every day.
“I think every player likes to play and like I say I’m working with him (Nuno), and I trust him, so I’ll be working 100 per cent like I was before, like I always do, and be the best I can be.”
On his enjoyment of European nights
“I definitely enjoy them. It’s good anywhere, but we’re here, so what we have to think is in this game, play like it’s 0-0. I think that we will play well and when we go out, we’ll do the best we can do and try to win.
“Every experience is good for. Every experience; if it’s league, Europa League, or whatever, I will take the experience try to let it make me a better player.
“But our focus is on this game, to try and win.”
