The Belgian thought he had put his side ahead in the 51st minute of the opening Premier League game of the season at King Power Stadium, but it wasn’t to be as his finish was disallowed by the video assistant referee.
On goalless draw with Leicester
“Especially after the goal we made, it was not an easy game today. In the first-half, we started well, but after the first ten minutes I think Leicester had more of the ball.
“They were not really dangerous, but they had more of the ball, and we started the second-half really well. We had some chances where we could’ve scored, Raul and Diogo had a chance.
“Then, obviously, I scored from a corner and I was surprised that the VAR was checking it. I didn’t know what happened, apparently Boly touched it with his shoulder – because I’ve seen the images – so it’s a pity, but what can we do.”
On VAR decision
“I think we were in the game at that moment. Diogo and Raul just had a big chance before it and then you score, and you have the feeling.
“You then see on the screen that VAR is checking, and it takes longer and longer. I thought ‘this is not good’ and then the referee cancelled it, so yeah, too bad.”
On team’s performance
“We were not bad at all, we worked a lot and we defended really well. I don’t think they’ve been really dangerous even though they’ve had more of the ball.
“But I think we can always do better, and we will just keep on working hard and try to win games.
“We fought really hard today to keep a clean sheet, and then you manage to score, but it gets cancelled by the new rules.
“That’s hard to take, but new rules are new rules.”
On getting back to European football
“We have to take it game by game now. First the Europa League game again, but we have to take it game by game, keep going and work really hard.”
