The visitors took the lead through Danny Ings early in the second-half, but Doherty, a half-time introduction for Ruben Neves, provided the moment of quality to get Wolves back into the game – a wonderful run which was halted by a foul in the penalty area, with Raul Jimenez able to confidently convert the resulting spot kick.
The second-half saw Doherty and Traore link up down Wolves’ right, with the Irishman enjoying his wide partnership with the Spaniard.
On his understanding with Traore
“When I came on, I was told to play a bit more inside and let Adama stay out wide. We obviously work on those kinds of things on the training ground all the time, and I managed to get in behind a few times, with one of those leading to the goal.
“When I play alongside Adama, we’re told to switch all the time – to never be in the same position. Our movement is quite good, and at times today their defence didn’t know what to do.”
On taking a draw against the Saints
“It’s one of those games – if you don’t win, you just have to make sure you don’t lose, and we did that.
“They matched us up from the start, and I thought they played pretty well, so it was probably a point gained in the end.
“With the penalty, I had no real doubts that it was going to get overturned by VAR, because I know that once it gets given it’s hard to overturn it. There’s contact – he definitely caught me.”
On Thursday’s Europa League tie at Slovan Bratislava
“We’re playing in Europe – this is what we wanted, so we’re all excited to play there. We’ll go to Slovakia wanting to win, and hopefully to enjoy it.”
