The speedy winger has been a key member of Nuno Espirito Santo’s side this season, contributing five goals and seven assists in all competitions in the second half of 2019, but the Spaniard does not believe the last 12 months has been his best as it goes against his mentality to never stop developing.
On starting the new year at Watford
“Each game of the Premier League is tough, so we expect a tough team, a team that is hard to beat, but whatever the situation is in front of us we will fight on.”
On working hard in front of goal
“I’ve been looking to add goals this season, but I’ve been working on different aspects too.
“I've been playing in different positions this year and tried to do my best in each position. My mentality is that if I can grow and give my best in a position it will make me a better player.
“That is what I have been doing and it is how I will continue to do it.”
On his progression this season
“I’m happy, definitely, but the happiest I can be is when we are winning the games and helping each team to achieve the aim, which is winning each game.
“I’m happy with that and I have done a lot of things in different positions – I’ve played wing-back, winger, a striker and I’m happy to grow.
“I trust in the process of Nuno and I keep pushing and growing and give my best. That is my mentality. If I am the same man of yesterday, for me it is one day lost.
“I would say 2019 was not my best year, because if I am the same man of yesterday, for me it is one day I have lost.
“I think I have to improve, get better and get better every day. That is my mentality.”
