Neves delighted to add to his stunning goal collection

Ruben Neves lit up Molineux once again on Thursday night as he added to his outstanding collection of wonder goals by smashing the ball into the net from 25-yards to help Wolves to a 4-0 Europa League win against RCD Espanyol.

The midfielder’s sensational second-half effort doubled Wolves’ lead on the night, but Neves believes the large scoreline – coupled with the fact his team were able to keep a third clean sheet in succession, was vitally important towards the side’s aims of reaching the round of 16.

On comparisons to his Derby screamer

“Well, a goal is a goal. It’s different games, a different goal as well, today was a little bit closer to the goal, but I’m really happy. I’m really happy for the team.

"My first touch with my chest was perfect, so after I did that I just thought about shooting. It's always good to score and I enjoy every goal, but mainly I'm really happy for the team because we did a good job.

“As you saw in the first-half, we were a little bit struggling because they play really well. We adjust something at half-time and we did a very good second-half with three goals, so we’re proud of our game, and now we’re just taking it game by game.”

On a four-goal first-leg lead

"It was a really special night. The stadium was full as usual, there was a great atmosphere and of course the result was good. To score four and keep a clean sheet at home is really good, and it gives us lots of motivation for the second leg.

"The first half was maybe not so good, but we had a very good second half, so I'm very proud of everybody tonight. We know we have to play there, in a really tough stadium to play, so we’ll keep working hard to get there and get a good result again.”

On going straight back to Premier League action

“As we’ve said lots of times before, we’re thinking game by game, so now we have Premier League again. After we will then think about Europa League. Now is time to rest and prepare well for Sunday’s game.”
