Nuno Espirito Santo’s players are now in Marbella on a warm weather training camp, with a weekend off on the agenda. However, with a busy end to February coming up, Neves believes the group are well prepared, having controlled Saturday’s draw at Manchester United for long periods.
On building on the point
“To be honest, we wanted to win, we want to win all the games. When you come to Old Trafford and get a draw, against a great team, it’s always good for us. Now we’re looking forward to the next one. We have a week to prepare ourselves and then go again.”
On repeatedly meeting United
“I think it’s difficult when you play lots of times against the same team. You need to find new solutions for the game, but it’s football.
“We knew it would be a really hard game for us, they needed to win but we wanted to win as well, but I think a draw was a fair result for what happened on Saturday.”
On the game plan
“It was like usual, we wanted to play our game. We controlled it, but I think it’s a fair result, both teams did a good game, without goals, but a good game to watch.
“I think we played well, we controlled the game, maybe at the end they were a little bit in front, but it’s normal, they were playing at home. Fortunately, they didn’t score and we got a draw, it’s not bad for us.
“Our mentality is playing the same everywhere, it doesn’t matter the stadium, so we try to play our football. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the win, but we go out with a draw. Now, let’s take a rest and start preparing ourselves.”
On the tight-knit group
“Since the Championship we’ve known each other, so I think it’s not about the countries, it’s about the team. We have a great squad, the Portuguese, Spanish, English, everyone is really good people and we want to keep on going with that.”
