A controversial handball decision right at the death allowed Burnley to salvage a dramatic draw and cancel out Raul Jimenez’s strike, which had appeared enough for a big victory in Lancashire. The skipper, unhappy with the decision, also believed Wolves should have known how to see the game out at that point, and shared the thoughts of all Wolves supporters come full-time.
On the penalty decision
“I don’t think it was [a penalty]. I’ve seen it back and still don’t think it is. People might tell me different, but Doc was trying to protect his face because he thinks he’s going to get kicked. That’s how it is, that’s it from our point of view.
“Our worry was that it was never going to get overruled anyway, they don’t overrule referees, so we knew as soon as it got given that it would get given because it’s what they do.”
On seeing out the game
“The goal’s fantastic. I thought it was a brilliant finish from Raul, we know he can do that. Adama took us up the pitch, but we should manage the game better.
“You look at the negatives, we’ve drawn the game and feel like we should have won it, but we need to manage the game better in those situations.”
On the table with two remaining
“It’s nothing we think about. People ask me that question all the time, that’s not what we think about.
“We think about trying to improve. We wanted to improve on Everton and came here and felt like we should have won, but we didn’t.”
On improving all the time
“Improvement is all we’re looking for, improvement as a team and a football club. That’s what we want every week.
“It felt like a loss because we conceded in the last minute and we feel the decision was taken away from us, but we’ll move forward, we’ll learn, we’ll improve and get better.”
