Jimenez: Olympiacos goal 'means everything'

Raul Jimenez “wants more” from Wolves’ Europa League campaign having reached the quarter-finals after a nervy victory over Olympiacos in the round of 16.

The Mexican’s penalty proved to be the difference in an evenly-contested second leg at Molineux, with the goal being enough to send Wolves into the last eight and a tie with perennial Europa League winners Sevilla in Germany.

On reaching the quarters

“It feels amazing being in the quarter-finals. We’ve had a long journey to be here, but now we have to face it knowing that it will be difficult, but we are playing for something and we want it.

“It’s very big. After our first year in the Premier League we learned a lot, we achieved the Europa League, now this year, we made more points in the Premier League and now we’re in the quarter-finals, we want it more.

“We want to keep going, keep doing this as we know and keep going like this.

“It’s a long, long season. We started last year and now we are here, still with the same players, still with the same rhythm, now we try to achieve big things and we know that we can do it.

“Now we have to go to Germany, be focused on what’s coming and then think about the next game.”

On a nervy ending to the contest

“After the goal we managed the game well. In the second-half, we gave them a little more of the ball but we had opportunities to finish the game. We have to make it count, but at the end we have this very important win.

“It was difficult, it was for me watching what was happening in our box, but this is how we have to win. The important thing here was to take the win, no matter how. We have to keep winning.”

On his game-winning penalty

“This goal means everything. It’s everything we were going through, for the whole seasons, since the beginning, we were training, we were working hard.

“We started the Europa League in the qualification rounds and have had a big, big season, but we have to keep going.”

On his rabona attempt

“I like those kinds of shots, but one day I’m going to score. I’m going to keep going and sometimes it’s better than other options, so I’m going to keep going.”

On facing Sevilla in Germany

“We know it’s going to be tough, it’s going to be difficult. We know that they are a good team and they play good, but we play as a team, as a group, as a family, like we were playing all the season.

“They are a very good team but I think we can achieve very good things, and we have very good players to face them.”

On Nuno’s influence on the squad

“He’s a very important part of the team. He’s who manages all of this, he’s the leader, so at the end he just said congratulations to me, he knew that I was going to score and all that confidence that he and all the team give to me, hopefully I give it back to them on the pitch.”
