The Mexican worked hard to find space on the edge of the Leeds box to put his side ahead, with his shot taking a big deflection off Kalvin Phillips ahead of making its way into the back of the net, but Jimenez insists that the goal and the victory was thoroughly deserved.
On three points at Elland Road
“It’s always good to win, especially to come here in this kind of stadium, because they are a good team.
“We knew this game was going to be tough, but we faced it as we know; as a team, as we were doing the last two seasons, and we came here with all the personality to take the result.
“In the first-half, we didn’t find the way to resist their attack, to resist their press, but in the second-half, we had the ball, we played better and we found the spaces in the back, and I think we deserved this win.
“They are very tough. They press in the spaces, they go man-to-man, so we knew it was going to be a difficult game, and we faced it like it was.”

On scoring a fortunate goal
“It’s difficult to score against these kinds of teams. My first two goals of the season before this one were first touch; one header, one with the right foot, and this one I had to drive with the ball, create my own space.
“They press very well and if he doesn’t touch it, I think it’s going to be a fantastic goal. No, but it was lucky for me.
“Sometimes, strikers need that little bit of fortune to score their goals, but we deserved it and it’s all about the team’s persistence.”
On building on successive wins
“After losing two games in a row, we are now winning two games in a row and it’s given us a lot of confidence to face the next part of the season.
“These three games we have before another international break, we have to face them as finals, to have as many points as we can.”
On finding feet after no pre-season
“Last season, it was very, very long for us – too many places, too many games, and we deserved days off.
“The coach, all the staff, made the decision to give us 20 days of holidays, and then we only had 10 days to train before the start of the season, but I think that helped us to face this and to come again.
“Now we have nine points, fighting in the league, and it’s just the start of the season, but we are going to be fighting away, at home, and all of the season.”
