The 19-year-old, who joined Wolves Academy in 2014, has been training regularly with the first-team for several years, but after wearing the captain’s armband for the under-23s during the first half of the season, Cundle made the step up to a fully-fledged member of Bruno Lage’s squad last month, and marked his promotion by being named in the starting line-up for the 2-0 win over Spurs.
Ending his full debut with a 96 per cent pass completion rate – the highest of any player who started that day – the midfielder impressed as he played a key role in bringing three points back to the West Midlands.
On making his first senior start for Wolves
“It’s amazing. Playing out there today was a great feeling and something I’ve never had before and I’d never experienced it.
“I’ve got to thank the gaffer and his staff for trusting me to play from the start, and hopefully I can get more chances like this.”
On picking up the three points
“Individually, I thought I struggled during the first half-an-hour a little bit, I was still getting used to it as I hadn’t played at that speed and tempo before.
“But as the game went on, I grew into it a bit and I thought I did ok in the end. To get the three points today, with a good performance, was incredible.”
On a solid team performance
“It obviously helped us to get the two goals early in the game. It gave us something to hold on to. But I thought the lads at the back defended brilliantly.
“But also throughout the team, from back to front, and I thought we deserved the three points.”
