The academy graduate was stretching as he raced into the box to meet Rayan Ait-Nouri’s cross, but he was unable to keep the ball from flying over the crossbar, and with Wolves having to settle for a point in their first Premier League game of the 2022/23 season back at Molineux, Gibbs-White believes the only area the side in gold and black need to improve is putting the ball in the back of the net.
On settling for a draw
It was a frustrating game, but fair play to Fulham, they’ve come up and given it their best, but I felt that we had full control over the game and we just didn’t take our chances.
“It was just one of those days, but I’m sure next week we can take those chances.”
On almost grabbing the deciding goal
“I‘ve just seen the space, I drove into it and it was a lovely ball from Rayan, and it was just unlucky that I couldn’t get it on target.”
On playing back at Molineux
“It’s always a special feeling here, and hearing the fans sing that song, because I’m a homegrown player.
“It’s a special feeling and they’re always supporting, the fans were amazing today and I just hope they can continue that throughout the season.”
On squaring up with Aleksandar Mitrovic
“It was nothing. It’s just football. It happens. Two players got aggressive, and it happens in football.
“It was a late tackle on me, I reacted, and the referee didn’t seem like he wanted to give him a red card, so it was just a yellow.
“It is what it is.”
On areas to improve
“It’s just finishing those chances, but we’re working week in, week out in training. We’re scoring them in training, so we just need to score them in games now.”
