The 25-year-old joined Wolves two years ago and impressed out on loan, but against Preston North End came his big moment, and the goalkeeper didn’t let Bruno Lage down, as he helped his club into the third round. Although disappointed to lose his clean sheet, the goalkeeper was pleased with how he and his defence managed the game from there and believes he’ll only improve from playing with quality players here at Wolves.
On making his debut
“It felt good. It was good to get out there in front of the crowd and show myself. I enjoyed it, a good 2-1 win for the boys and into the next round. I found out on Sunday [that he was playing], but I was expecting it. I’ve just been working hard, building myself up for this game, so I thoroughly enjoyed it.”
On a big milestone for him
“I see it as stepping blocks [his journey], it’s a pathway you create for yourself to get to where you want to be. It’s like work experience in any other job. Last season was part of that, unfortunately it was cut short, but they’ve given me the nod to be backup and I’m not going to disappoint.
“The plan is to have a cup run, I want to play as many games as possible, be that in the cups or as the first choice. This is my opportunity to show myself and showcase what I can do, so hopefully that will impress the manager and put pressure on him to make a decision or not, that’s part of football. My ambition’s to play as first choice.”
On differing halves
“It’s part of the game, we conceded an early goal in the second-half which was a disappointing, and of course at 2-1 it puts a bit of pressure on ourselves, so we had to stay on the front foot and try not to sit off and be passive.
“I think we have to be aggressive with our defending and put the pressure on them. I think we controlled the game pretty well and we got the win. Unfortunately, we conceded but that’s part of football, and it’s how we deal with these situations which count.”
On slotting into the team
“It was my first time playing with that back four, with any of those players in an official game, but I didn’t feel out of place at all. The more I play with them, the better I’ll get.
“The style of play is there, the quality of our football is there, we just need that end product and hopefully this can give the boys a bit of confidence to push on and do it in the Premier League.”

On an eye on the next round
“Whoever it is, bring it on. The bigger the team, the bigger the challenge. I just want to push and challenge myself and show people what I can do.”
