Starting his first game of the season after missing the campaign’s opening due to injury, the Mexican was on hand to tap home Rayan Ait-Nouri’s cross to set the old gold on their way to the Carabao Cup third round. Now off the mark for the season, Jimenez has turned his attention to the Premier League, and hopes he can continue to help the team when Newcastle United come to town on Sunday afternoon.
On being back in the goals
“It’s really good to be back in starting 11 and winning our first game in the cup, so it’s nice to be back and scoring. I’m ready, I’m fit, ready to start scoring again, to be there with the team helping. Every time I’m in the team, I’m going to do the best for us.”
On his pirate celebration
“I was planning it since pre-season these kinds of things. I hope I can score more and do it more times. You need to wait for me to score again and let’s see what’s coming next.”
On Traore also bagging
“He deserves, he has been training hard. He has been involved in all that we do, so it’s good for him to be on the scoresheet again.”
On a run in the cup
“It’s early but we put some targets before we start and want to achieve them. We started with a good win, going well, and we want to go as far as we can.”
