Ait-Nouri | 'We still have a long way to go'

Rayan Ait-Nouri insists Wolves need to focus on themselves rather than their opposition on Wednesday night despite expecting Bournemouth to be out for ‘revenge’ following their heavy defeat against Liverpool.

Both Wolves and the Cherries suffered disappointment at the weekend, with the old gold falling to a late blow against Newcastle United at Molineux to deny them a first win of the campaign, while Bournemouth conceded nine to the Reds. The sides go head-to-head on the south coast tomorrow evening, and in spite of Wolves’ slow start to the campaign in terms of points, Ait-Nouri feels the side has plenty of quality to achieve their objectives this season.

On bouncing back from Sunday

“We actually offered a good game. There is a very good relationship between the players on the field and we all get on together, but on this occasion, the result was not exactly what we would have liked.

“But it’s still the beginning, we still have a long way to go and we will have plenty of opportunities to play our game, in particular on Wednesday against Bournemouth, where we are hoping we will give a very good performance and get the win.”

On Bournemouth looking for ‘revenge’

“We’re all aware of their defeat against Liverpool, however, in the Premier League, there is never a winner or loser from the start of the matches, there are complicated games.

“This one is going to be another complicated game. It’s going to be very intense, and I think it’s going to be up to us to give the best performance.

“They’re going to have a ‘revenge’ spirit quite strongly, however, we’re going to go there with the intention to win. We’re going to give the best game we can and we need to focus on ourselves and not so much on the opposition, and we’ll try our best.”

On atmosphere in the changing room

“I’ve been here for three years now, and I must admit, when I first arrived, I was made instantly welcome. The other players were extremely helpful and really looked after me. It’s a great team with a lovely atmosphere in the changing room.

“Even before I arrived, it was a very good team, as they got to the quarter-finals of the Europa League, which is quite exceptional. There are always new players coming and you always improve your game, so I think we are a very good team and I’m extremely pleased to be part of it. We all get on well and everyone is doing their best to progress.”

On remaining positive

“It is true to say that last year, I had a very good start and a not so good finish, but these things happen. As far as this season is concerned, it’s been a little bit complicated, but I think we can offer a good game to any team and I’m confident that we will do very well.

“We are a very optimistic team and I know that we are a very good team. Games are always complicated in the Premier League, but we are not showing any signs of weakness. We are very focused, I think we are a very good team and we will deliver a very good performance with our manager.

“This is only the beginning of the season, there are still a lot of games to play, and we will try our best to get the maximum number of points and I do feel very confident that we will succeed this season.”
